TapTail helps designers collect lightweight usability signals from Figma prototypes and bring those results back into Figma. This page explains what data TapTail stores to make that work.
TapTail does not ask for access to your Figma files. Reports are created by the plugin inside the Figma file you already have open.
Data We Store
- Your Figma user identifier, used to show your tracked prototypes in the plugin.
- Prototype records you create, including prototype name, TapTail handle, original Figma prototype URL, optional task instructions, optional success screen node ID/name, report count, and timestamps.
- Session identifiers generated when someone opens a TapTail sharing link.
- Optional link labels added through the `ref` parameter, used to compare traffic sources or test groups.
- Browser user agent and accepted language for basic session context.
- HTTP referrer information when available.
- Figma prototype event types emitted by the embedded prototype.
- Event payloads from Figma, which may include presented screen node IDs, target node IDs, click coordinates, scroll offsets, whether a click was handled, component state changes, and event timestamps.
- Derived report metrics such as session duration, clicks, misclicks, time on screen, time to first action, success reached, time to success, and clicks to success.
How We Use This Data
- To create visual reports inside Figma.
- To count sessions, clicks, misclicks, and task success.
- To display tracked prototypes in the plugin.
- To help designers understand how testers interact with prototypes.
- To operate, debug, and improve TapTail.
What We Do Not Store
- We do not store your full Figma design files.
- We do not require edit access to your Figma files.
- We do not record video or screen recordings of testers.
- We do not track mouse movement heatmaps.
Sharing Links
When you create a TapTail sharing link, testers open a TapTail page that embeds the Figma prototype. TapTail records the prototype events emitted by that embedded Figma prototype and associates them with the generated session ID.
Data Deletion
Deleting a tracked prototype in the plugin deletes the prototype record and its related event records from TapTail.
